On Friday, April 25 took place in the Chapel-Theater of IES Puerta Bonita the 7th Edition of the Platos Rotos festival dedicated to funk music within the programming of "FESTIMAD 14". This year the groups who performed included: The Groovin’ Flamingos, Impossible Funk Project, Black Mouth, Yonta Groove and Electrica Soul.
In the gardens of the institute there were also different activities that took place such as a live radio program, workshops, graffiti, caricatures, dancing performances and magic shows for the more than 300 people that, throughout the day, were able to enjoy our festival.
Throughout this course, there has been planned the production of six projects for Production week. The groups from the second year design course had finished the design of said projects, as well as the production of the installation of the exposition of the works. The students of the digital prepress cycle, printing and production in the graphic arts industries had finished the production of the majority of the designed projects.
The aforementioned projects include: design and printing of t-shirts and bags to promote the graphic arts cycles; design and printing of the magazine about Toulouse Lautrec and his influence in the birth of the billboard; design and printing of the of double-faced postcards, spitting one original image from the students in Image and the corresponding interpretation of the designer; design and printing of a technical notebook over the post printing processes; design of a 2014 calendar and a collection of bookmarks; design and construction of the exposition of the Production Week works.
Eleven projects have been performed by the Image and Sound Department. All of them have been directed by Executive Production; the short film "La peor de las conciencias"; orchestral concert "20 a tocar", that was carried out with the audio recording, mixing, editing and mastering; a radio programme that included radio adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s story "Hola y Adiós"; three photographic projects: "Hotel Mercure", "Homenaje a Velazquez" and "Décimas de vida"; live music concerts of "No More Faith" and "Victims of a down" in collaboration with the Instituto de Radio Televisión Española, that attended the concert with its students and teachers of Sound; a behind the scenes video was also filmed featuring the making of all the projects and showing all that happened behind the camera during the whole Production Week; and all live events were broadcast via live streaming on www.iespuertabonita.com. Finally we enjoyed a magnificent Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Production Week.
A total of 15 students from IES Puerta Bonita carry out, during their third semester of the 2013-14 course year, their in-company training through the Erasmus program in eight countries throughout the European Union.
Concretely the cities receiving the students during this period include: Aberdeen, United Kingdom in the company Station House Media Unit (SHMU); Copenhagen, Denmark in the companies Cool Gray and Kameraudlejningen, APS; Dublin, Ireland the radio broadcast station Community Broadcasting Cooperative Society T/A Phoenix FM and the photography studio Edmund Ross Photography; Tallinn, Estonia in the public radio and television studio Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) (Estonian Public Broadcasting); Toulouse, France in the television broadcast station TVSOL; Turin, Italy in the companies - Associazione di Promozione Sociale YEPP Italia and Biancaneve SC; Rotterdam, Holland in the companies Fame & Fortune, Petit Chic and Artega; Munich, Germany in the companies Kayser Forum for Sustainability gemeinnützige GmbH and Sound Studio Sol; and lastly Dusseldorf, Germany in the recording studio Musikwerkstudio.de.
Four graphic arts students from the vocational training center of Copenhagen KTS were admitted during the month of April in Madrid-based companies through the mediation of our institute. For one month, the students develop their professional skills in Addison Spain, Aries Communication Group, La Fragua Audio-visual and Malevolent.
three other students with specialities in photography and graphic design,
coming from the secondary polytechnic school of Tallinn, Estonia, have
worked on their laboral skills in Madrid for one month. The collaborating
companies of IES Puerta Bonita that admitted these students are: Inraphoto,
Malévolo and Aries Communication Group.
These vocational student admittance activities of other European countries frame the reciprocal relationships established within our school and other centers and European institutions. This helps us to facilitate the learning process of our students in other countries and at the same time come to know the profoundness of other professional realities throughout Europe. The admitted work and orientation were done by the coordination of international projects and the training teachers in our work centers.
On April 23, 2014 in IES Puerta Bonita the "Business Door 2014" (from now on referred to as Puerta Empresarial) day in which we tried to give the most open view possible of the of the productive activities development in the audio-visual and graphic arts sectors. People and entities involved included Ernesto Peirat, Social Founder of Tallent and Technology; Jesús Anaya, production director; Mar Sierra, cofounder and social media manager of Sensahion Photostudio; Rolando Carileo, president of Mundo Libre; and Jesús Malpartida, promoter of the Online Editorial, Maldita Editorial project.
For one week during the month of April the department of image and sound changed up the usual classes from the first year groups to carry out the recording of 12 short films. The students assumed the roles as professionals for which they are being trained and perform the recordings in twelve groups after having made a selection of guides within the students just as a complex preproduction would.
On top of that this year, framed within the preproduction of the short "Los Ojos de Lucía", a conference over autism was held in which Lucia, a girl with autism of whom the film was inspired, her mother, her professor as well as Jorge, belonging to the Aleph-Tea association, that works for the rights and the integration of persons with autism.
The Center for Transfusion of the Red Cross came to the rescue at our facilities for yet another year in order to carry out their annual Blood Drive campaign. A total of 64 students and workers from the center helped out to donate blood and 56 of them were able to contribute with their donation to this important cause.
IES Puerta Bonita was present at the AFIAL 2014 Job Fair, VI sound room, the lighting and audiovisual technologies with a stand situated on the third floor adjacent to other training entities during the 25th, 26th and 27 of March. In the stand, students from the afternoon classes of the first year audio-visual and concert/show production promoted the center and the Platos Rotos 2014 festival, dedicated for the second year in a row to the Funk genre of music.
During the 9th, 10th and the 11th of April in Munich the annual conference of European Graphic/Media Network Industries was celebrated to discuss among other news in the graphic arts and media sectors and its impact in the corresponding vocational training. Special relevance was given to the knowledge of the industrial reality sector of Germany. IES Puerta Bonita, member of the association, was present at the conference with three teachers from the center, where they also were able to develop some European projects with schools that are also associated with EGIN.
During the third semester of the course year all students of the first year of both turns (morning and afternoon) are able to participate in a large program of activities that have been offered with their own human resources and materials of the center in the complementary schedule. Namely:
English for Graphic Arts. 4 hours weekly.
All the courses are carried out between April 22 and June 10.
On March 13, 2014 we had the privilege of attending a conference given in our center by Doctor José Luis Sánchez Noriega about "Cinematographic merchandise. Cinema and work". Doctor José Luis Sánchez Noriega is a professor of Film History at the Complutense University of Madrid, cinema critic in diverse specialized publications. Doctor Sánchez is a tireless investigator in the audio-visual sector and on of the more eminent historians of film.
During the month of April of the current academic year the institute has carried out first aid sessions taught by SAMUR in all the groups of the first course year at IES Puerta Bonita. There were a total of 10 sessions of 2 hours each in which the students were able to learn first hand the basic behavior that they were able to have before a accident and the basic techniques of resuscitation.
The students and teachers of the first year Printing in Graphic Arts were able to visit the facilities at Aries. Furthermore the path of the facilities received an interesting explanation over the working processes in the communication company and graphic arts.
Décimas de vida
During the months of April and May the center will expose the three photographic projects made during Production Week: Hotel Mercure, Homenaje a Velázquez and Décimas de Vida.
In the center’s cafeteria there are exposed signs of the participating groups in the 2014 VII Platos Rotos Festival.
IES PUERTA BONITA IN THE CADENA SER
The program "Hoy por Hoy" from Cadena Ser in Madrid dedicated one of their sections to our center and especially the Museum of Technology of Graphic Arts and Image and the sound with which the center counts on. This section was issued from the study of the radio of IES Puerta Bonita.
PLATOS ROTOS IN EL PAIS
The newspaper El País dedicated an article in the cultural section to FESTIMAD and the Platos Rotos festival of the funk genre of music of this Madrid music event.
